tasmanian liverworts - lepidoziaceae

kurzia

Kurzia 230917B
1. Dendroid Kurzia species 230917B

This is an unusual Kurzia in being fairly large with dendroid growth. Engel & Glenny's key suggests this could be K. dendroides. According to Atlas of Living Australia it was first recorded in Tasmania in 1900 and then again in 1949, both times from the north west of state.

However a note in Australian Bryological Newsletter #56 (Februry 2009) states that it is 'Known at present only from the Chatham Islands, the most easterly extension of the New Zealand Botanical Region. Kurzia dendroides is extremely rare in Australia, known only from the type collected in New South Wales by Whitelegge in 1885 (Schuster 1980) and a recent specimen from a locality about 100 km from the type locality (Heslewood & Brown 2007'

It will take time to determine what this is. More images and details will be forthcoming.
