Blue Tier Case to go to a Hearing
Arrestees attend court today in St. Helens.
Community members arrested earlier this year over logging in the proposed Blue Tier Nature Recreation Area attended St. Helens court this morning.
Lawyer representing the group, Mr. John Avery entered not guilty pleas on behalf of the arrestees and a date for the upcoming hearing has been set for September 16th.
'We are glad the case is going to a hearing,' Friends of the Blue Tier spokesperson Lesley Nicklason said.
'It gives us a further opportunity to highlight some of the concerns of this community, including water catchment protection and the future of the Break O’Day tourism industry.'
'This is not just about protecting the environment, it is also a matter of democracy ..... this community has been ignored for long enough – we want this special area protected and we are trying every way we know how to achieve that,' added Ms. Nicklason
